The opportunity
The original page describes an outdated layout, cumbersome primary and secondary navigation, and a need to respond to the VUDU and FandangoNOW combination. It also identifies platform business changes, migration from a LUA codebase to Scenegraph, information architecture, and brand trust as project considerations.
Design direction
The design adopted a more current Material Design approach. The original page describes an expanded and collapsed left navigation, consolidated buttons and icons, updated poster sizing, and a media detail page using a full background still. Discovery combined lists, category tabs, and genres, with personalization and suggested content informed by user behavior.
Research results recorded on the original page
Testing found the new layout intuitive to both “Collectors” and “Renters.” Participants reported that navigation behavior was expected, while some visual elements such as large promotional banners felt unnecessary. The page says the findings validated several assumptions and prompted the team to consider navigation hierarchy variations.
