ASSUMPTIONS:

  • Walmart integration initiatives: Globally, how can the Vudu platform be integrated into the Walmart experience.

  • It’s already known that the two largest personas in the Walmart-verse is:
    - Women: age 20-40 with children who are always busy or on-the-go in the mornings; who look for great deals without too much effort;
    - Men/women of all ages and ethnicities who need help making the day to day efficient, who may have little or some tech savviness.

KEY ELEMENTS TO DESIGN FOR:

  • Kid Friendly features + Parental Controls

  • Subscription VOD

  • Shoppable Ads routed to Walmart e-commerce

  • Account migration/integration

  • Live TV

  • Unique OS developed to answer user needs/pain points

SOLUTION: The Walmart HUB (aka Project 34)

One stop for the most important up-to-date information for easy consumption. Users would be able to access news, entertainment, consumer product goods with emphasis on the core digital streaming platform to include Vudu (and other TVOD sources), SVOD, and one-click CPG purchases with an integrated OS installed onto Walmart brand televisions sold in stores.

OUTCOME:

This project was presented to executive stakeholders within Vudu and Walmart and ultimately resulted in an awarded budget of $18M to proceed with development. In the following 1.5 years, a MVP version of Project 34 was created. Although a standalone OS did not end up in the scope for launch, the subsequent Walmart Video project moved forward.
